With my graduation about a week away, I figured it was time to reveal what my plans are after FSU. I’m so excited to announce that I am heading to Boston!
I will be joining the @SteppLab at Boston University as a postdoc! I cannot wait!

Banner day! I got to open a big box of @AbleNetInc #AAC equipment for use in classes & clinic AND tour the new @TowsonU College of Health Professions building! Can’t wait to move into my sunny new office and get folks communicating in all different ways 😊

@KCoburnSLP @drstevenkapp @liz_pellicano @journalautism Mostly a mixture of recognising the voice, giving same answers or same kind of false info, and all of them having the same "internet connectivity" issue where you'd ask a question they didn't know how to answer, go on mute, then unmute 2 mins later - suddenly having an answer.

@KCoburnSLP @drstevenkapp @liz_pellicano @journalautism Yep, this is same for us. One man got me on video call 3 times (via different fake email addresses) and wouldn't even turn on video himself! Couldn't tell me what autism was and kept asking for the vouchers. Genuinely kind of scary.

This has been an issue for us over the past year too. We screen all participants and identified at least 30 applications that were a type of scammer. This really is not great for data integrity, especially as more and more people seem to be reporting this problem now.

More context: I’ve recently had several research interviews on Zoom with participants who were not the people they claimed to be in screening surveys & preliminary emails—even misrepresenting AAC use! This matches a pattern of “scammer participants” described by Pellicano et al.
