My biggest gripe with today’s game:
Q who is very analytical about matchups with our hitters, has Lefty, Righty, Lefty for the Yankees in the bottom of the 8th with a 1 run lead.
Daniel Lynch, who had thrown 8 pitches in the 7th, has an opponent batting average of .132 against LHH.
Instead he chose to go with Erceg, who not only has a .289 BA against LHH and gave up 3ER on 32 pitches last night

@justbaseball643 Sure, but imo it’s all bs at the end of the day lol. Jac has strung together good games, and after two hitters get out, I don’t see the use in benching Cags at that point, especially when you need your best defense to close out the game in the 9th— you NEED Cags’s arm there.

@KCsideline Cags ops against lefties: .545
Martes ops against lefties: .649
Martes ops against lefties his entire career: .767
I think in a high pressure spot with a risp, it’s reasonable for Q to pinch hit marte. Especially in a high leverage spot where the royals need a hit.

Doing this tells me you don’t fully believe in Jac Caglianone and if that’s the case then WHY THE BLANK DID YOU TAKE HIM AS BLANKING HIGH IN THE DRAFT AS YOU BLANKING DID!!!!!? #Royals

I actually like Sterling Marte, but why take away an opportunity from Cags while we’re up?

Another one. Another gut-punch. Another “almost” that ends in pure agony.
The Royals had this game. Up 3-2 in the 8th after Bobby Witt Jr. went yard with a laser to left for the go-ahead bomb. The stadium was rocking, we finally had the Yankees on the ropes… and then the bullpen decided to light itself on fire in the 9th. Anthony Volpe with a two-run single? Come on. How do you let the Yankees crawl back from the dead like that AGAIN? Witt was a superhero again, and we still find a way to lose 4-3. Classic Royals baseball in 2026—tease you with hope, then yank the rug out and laugh.
This team is 22-32, buried in last place, and it feels like we’re allergic to closing out winnable games. The offense goes quiet for stretches, the bullpen melts down the second it matters, and here we are watching the Yankees extend whatever streak this is against us. I’m tired, man. We need to win these games, not just compete in them. Fire whoever needs firing, shake up the pen, do SOMETHING. Kauffman deserved better tonight. We all did.
Royals fans, how are we still finding new ways to lose like this? Vent below. 😤

well, I guess "put your DH on the field" is a better idea than "Marte RF, Tolbert 2B, Loftin 1B" #Royals
