The flood watch for the southern panhandle has been extended into Monday morning. We are expecting an additional surge of moisture to move primarily into the southern half of the panhandle. #akwx

An additional 1.5 - 3 inches of rain is now possible for the southern panhandle Sunday, including Ketchikan, Metlakatla, and Prince of Wales Island, and an additional 1.0 - 2.0 inches for the central inner channels and outer coast, including Petersburg, Wrangell, Kake, and Sitka.

The Southern and Central Panhandle has seen around 1.5 to 2.5 inches of accumulation in the past 12 hours. Isolated locations and higher-elevation areas have reported over 2.5 inches overnight. Rain rates will increase as the front continues to lift north through tonight.

Due to weather conditions, the White Cliff Building that houses the Ketchikan Gateway Borough offices closed at 1 p.m. Wednesday.

The Alaska State Troopers have issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the Ketchikan and Annette Island areas until 6 p.m. Wednesday, due to an arctic front expected to leave another 3 inches of snow in the Ketchikan area, and up to 5 inches around Annette Island.

Correction: There are 145 absentee ballots, six special needs ballots and 76 questioned ballots that remain to be counted by the Canvass Board on Friday morning.
