6) Across all these preferences, North Korean survivors are clear: 📢 Justice is a sequence, not a single event. Fair trials, medical support, public recognition, UN pressure and sanctions should work together.

5) 💱 About one-third support targeted human rights sanctions on #DPRK officials and institutions that name individual perpetrators or responsible entities, impose travel bans, and freeze funds and economic resources.

📣 #DPRK is targeting religious communities simply for their beliefs—violating the right to #FoRB at every level. @USCIRF’s 2025 report features our evidence exposing this system of control—from ideology to surveillance to imprisonment 📄 uscirf.gov/sites/default/…

To date we have secured targeted human rights sanctions against some of those responsible, but more action is needed: 1) investment in documentation & preservation; 2) coordinated human rights sanctions against identified perpetrators across jurisdictions koreafuture.org/news/korea-fut…

It was a pleasure to co-host this event with @ROK_Mission & @CanadaUN and speak on this panel on the issue of justice & accountability for #SGBV victims in #DPRK

Exploring Pathways to Justice and Accountability for Sexual and Gender-based Violence (SGBV) Victims in North Korea (#CSW69 Side Event, 2025.03.12.) The Permanent Mission of ROK 🇰🇷 held the CSW69 side-event "Exploring Pathways to Justice and Accountability for Sexual and Gender-based Violence (#SGBV) Victims in North Korea", co-sponsored by the Permanent Mission of Canada 🇨🇦 @CanadaUN , and UK-based NGO Korea Future. The panelists, including 2 North Korean escapees (Eunsook Jang, Jihyun Park @JihyunPark7 ) and experts from Korea Future @KFuturexhr and Global Centre for the Responsibility to Protect @GCR2P , discussed on the ways to raise awareness of the ongoing grave human rights situation including SGBV against women and girls in North Korea, and to increase support of the international community for justice and accountability processes for SGBV victims and survivors in North Korea. The event began with the welcoming remarks of Amb. Joonkook Hwang, followed by the message from Elizabeth Salmon @UNSR_DPRK, #UN Special Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights in the DPRK.
