Bloomberg asked me a difficult question live on air yesterday: What does the upcoming election mean for fertility care? Fertility and family planning is certainly a bipartisan issue, but each administration would approach it differently. What do you think? What would you have answered?

An article about male fertility that doesn’t include the opinions of any male fertility specialists aka UROLOGISTS is not a good article. This lack of insight highlights how lost we are when it comes to male infertility. The normal layperson (including this journalist) doesn’t know who to ask about male fertility. We urologists are the gatekeepers of men’s health and male fertility and need to be better. We need to be louder and more vocal. Let me be clear - male infertility is treated by urologists, so if you’re having issues or fertility concerns please go see one!

If you've been trying for 6+ months, test his sperm. Not just the basic semen analysis. Get a DNA fragmentation test. High fragmentation = damaged DNA = embryos that implant but can't develop = "unexplained" infertility. It's a $300-400 test that most clinics don't even mention. 50% of infertility involves male factor. Invest in getting him tested.

CEO of scaled VC backed co. recently said if he just wanted to get rich he’d raise as little as possible, find early signs of PMF in a niche and sell to the leading VC backed company in that niche. They’re paying top dollar for this profile in their niche w/ very few options.

I saw zohran mamdani at a grocery store in brooklyn yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying. The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter. When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

Interesting insight from Andy Lapsa of Stoke Space: If you're running a hard tech startup, you should be able to fabricate everything you need yourself. You may choose to farm something out to a supplier, but you shouldn't need to.

@clementc Sperm is a biomarker for overall health - sperm test is considered a "canary in the coal mine" for health issues. Lots of correlations including to risks of cancer, cardiovascular issue, mortality, etc. So an easy and enjoyable way to get a quick overall assessment.

Men should test their sperm each year.
