Senator Graham embodied a kind of statesmanship that has become all too rare in today’s politics. When I first met him while working for Senator Tim Scott. We joked about me being a North Carolinian who crossed the border to work for a South Carolina senator, which he got a kick out of. We ended up talking about my family’s roots in the Philippines, and without missing a beat, he said something along the lines of, “Some of the nicest, most hospitable people in the world.” He wasn’t wrong. He was a masterful retail politician who understood the value of peace through strength. Today, the United States Senate lost one of its titans.
