Farmers must master and practise the 4Ps, planning, planting, pruning and profit. These four pillars, practiced together, are the foundation of a productive cocoa enterprise. Cocoa operates across two value chains, the primary and secondary chain.

Cocoa is a perennial crop but threatened by climate change, reducing yields and disrupting the livelihoods of farming communities depending on it. Trees like Musisi can be planted with cocoa to form a protective canopy. The trees are forests which help mitigate climate change.

Wetlands are superheroes of climate action, they store carbon, regulate floods, protect lives and crops and filters and improve the quality of water systems downstream. When we drain a wetland to plant crops, we are borrowing against a future we cannot afford to lose.

When you look around your community, the rains that were expected never came, floods arrive without warning and there is a necessity of walking long exhausting walk to find water that is safe enough to drink.

Farmers need dedicated financing to reach them directly for adaptation in farming practices, and for recovering losses in agriculture and rural infrastructure. Adaptation goals must be binding in all countries.

The climate crisis does not discriminate. It is hitting agriculture, infrastructure, public health, and livelihoods.Polluters must pay, industries driving emissions must be held financially accountable.

Floods damage roads and heatwaves strain energy systems. Shifting rainfall patterns compromise water infrastructure. During drought the spread of vector borne diseases like malaria into previously unaffected areas is high, there is nutrition insecurity from failed harvests.

Climate change is not just an environmental crisis, it has economic implications. When we talk about agriculture, smallholder farmers are the backbone of Uganda's food system but unpredictable rainfall disrupts planting seasons and droughts wipe out harvests.

No trees lead to rising temperatures, communities face full force of destructive winds, heavy rains wash directly into communities, carrying soil, stones, and devastation and deforested hillsides and rocky slopes become unstable which once protected land becomes a hazard zone.

When trees are cut down, we invite floods. When people are displaced from their homes, they move, clear land and cut down trees, settle to survive. Forests play a critical role in drawing rainfall. When they're gone, seasonal rain patterns shift.

Climate change is everyone's problem. It is touches every sector, the health, education, water, infrastructure. Any sector that assumes climate change doesn't affect it is engaging in self deception. Every ministry and sector must conduct a climate change analysis of its own.

Communities can actively fight climate change. For example community led forest conservation, where local people are organized and empowered to protect forests and their boundaries.
