I am incredibly saddened by the layoffs at the GM CAMI Assembly plant in Ingersoll. This morning, I spoke with Unifor Local 88 GM Plant Chairperson Mike Van Boekel and expressed my commitment to protect Canadian auto workers. We will keep them working, so they can keep their jobs as we fight through this mess. A Conservative Government will push hard to put an end to these tariffs and get a quick but fair deal that protects our sovereignty and our economy. Conservatives will be there for the auto workers in Ingersoll, Oshawa, Cambridge, Brampton, Windsor, Essex, St. Catharines, Oakville, Alliston, and Woodstock. President Trump is betraying America's closest friend and attacking our economy. We must strengthen our economy and end our reliance on the United States. I will stand up for Canada and protect our autoworkers by axing the GST on Canadian-made cars and providing temporary liquidity to companies affected by these tariffs through the Keep Canadians Working Fund.

Bro the plant isn't shutting down because of anything Trump did or anything any Government did. It is shutting down because Electric Vehicles just don't sell. They spent nearly 2 years retooling the place to make an EV van that to date has sold less than 2000 Units. They lose money every day the place runs. Regardless of Tariffs, and regardless of whatever support the Province or Feds provides...they still lose money, because the product doesn't sell. There is a reason Ford Oakville abandoned the EV plans and instead pivoted to the F-Series Superduty. EVs just don't sell in the volume needed for it to be a profitable business venture. Period.

@shareinhallett @PierrePoilievre Why can so many people get the function of tariffs wrong. Only imports are affected by Tariffs. Only the people of a country importing a product pays more for it. The selling country does not pay it. The Tariff makes the imported item more expensive than domestically manufactured

Get rid of the Green Deal and sell those cars to Canadians! If Canadians are waiting 6 months for a vehicle, why are we selling them to other countries? Because the tariffs/taxes we collect from those countries, are better on the government wallet. Stop causing us to depend on others and worry about us at home.
