A New Chapter for KMPDU: #Election Results & Leadership Transition
The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) congratulates the newly elected National and Branch leaders following a successful democratic process, after the official announcement of results by the Independent Electoral Committee (IEC) yesterday.
These leaders are the product of a robust constitutional process that the union has refined over time, reflecting the collective voice and vision of our members across the country. Our doctors have selected a team equipped to steer the union toward a future of progress, navigating the unpredictable tides of the healthcare sector with dedication and clarity.
🗳 Next Step | Ratification: To finalize this transition, the elects will be formally ratified during the Annual Delegates Conference (ADC) in May, marking their official entry into office and the start of their service to the medical fraternity.
🔗 Transparency & Verification: In line with our commitment to institutional integrity, the full breakdown of verifiable National and Branch results is now available for review on our portal:

BASIC SALARY #ADJUSTMENTS — UPDATE 🟥
Following a two-day engagement, the special code for basic salary adjustments has been resolved. The DPSN, SRC, CoG, and Treasury verified all pending adjustments. While 95% of doctors are owed, 5% were flagged for “overpayments”—a position we firmly reject, as it contradicts the ELRC 2020 judgement. Outstanding adjustments have been revised from KES 450M to KES 330M after the SRC February 2026 circular.
DIRECTIVES
SRC (10th March 2026) directs all counties to:
- Implement adjustments immediately
- Pay all arrears
- Use the DPSN special code
POSITION
We will enforce compliance and verify all figures. Annual increments are not part of CBA implementation. Doctors are owed—plus interest for delays.

KOGS calls for the immediate release of Dr. Obwaka. Holding a decorated medical practitioner without clear charges or bail is a violation of due process and an affront to the medical fraternity.
We stand with Dr. Obwaka and demand his immediate release from Muthaiga Police Station.

English

Yesterday it was Dr Khandawala.
Today it is Dr Obwaka.
Tomorrow it could be you.
This morning we stood with Dr Obwaka, an 80-year-old gynaecologist, who was abducted from his clinic by state agents and taken to Muthaiga Police Station on trumped-up charges, despite a valid court order stopping his arrest.
As KMPDU, we will not stand by and watch our members being persecuted. We will continue to push back against this mischief for the good of our society.
