The big challenge of aiming to make a game very difficult is still striking the perfect balance between frustration and fun. While I am enjoying Hollow Knight: Silksong, more often than not so far it has felt like it comes up on the wrong side of that balance.

I was probably in 2nd or 3rd grade, & only had Nintendo consoles (including N64). My best friend/bus mate had a PSX & would talk about how he & his brother were playing this amazing game, & I'd just listen with intrigue. Wouldn't be another year or two until I played it myself!
