My biggest flex in life was getting off of the @FairyLoot waitlist. Truly a top tier book box.

@KRSWriting I also wrote a book from 1st person with my daughter and we traded off chapters and the characters pov. I took odd number chapters from an old cranky sorcerer and she did even # from his new apprentice.

I usually never write multi pov stories and now that I’m trying to do it I am STRUGGLING yall. When writing multi pov do y’all switch from character to character as the story progresses? Or write all the parts for one character at a time? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

@KRSWriting It helps me to have a chronology so I know what scenes come when. If you have people in different locations or with separate narrative arcs (like fantasy) you CAN write a few of their chapters at a time. But you want to know what happens in between their chapters

@KRSWriting I'm writing a murder mystery with two sleuths. I give them alternate chapters. Some of the tension in the story lies in the reader knowing what one MC knows that the other does not. I use different fonts for their chapters. This was not intentional at first, but it's working.

@KRSWriting I switch back and forth. At first it's usually about who's perspective most effectively pushes the story forward. But then I'm like, who hasn't had a chapter, and then try to be consistent. Sometimes it's a nice creative push to keep all the POV characters engaged.

@KRSWriting I typically switch from character to character, flipping from chapter to chapter. When I finish the story, I go back and I re-read and see if some scenes would work better from the other POV, or if one POV is lacking enough scenes and try and rearrange that way.

@KRSWriting I write (mainly) start to finish and one of the decisions for each scene is whose POV is best to write it in. I only have 2 POVs, though, which is manageable.

@PenMonkey1 I have such a hard time skipping, my anxiety doesn't like it, but I know as a writer, I should do it rather than let something hold me up and stop progress haha. Thank you!

@KRSWriting I have done dual POV and write in order. Also, a big thing I try to focus on to make it easier is voice. Try to nail down who each character is at their core, how they’d speak, think, react, and see the world through their eyes.

@LexiBury Yeah, this is what I'm debating with. I have a hard time switching the voices rapidly since it takes me a while to get into the headspace of a character.

@KRSWriting I write one POV all the way through and then switch. My chapters alternate l, but I find it easier to keep voices in line with the with characters when I focus on one all the way through and then switch

@BranwenOShea That makes sense. The character agency is definitely why I'm hesitant to all of one character at a time.

@KRSWriting I have each chapter be a POV, and write chronologically. I use whichever POV has the most at stake at that point. Writing out of order doesn’t work for me, because all my characters surprise me and the next chapter has to be a reaction and action based on the previous one.

@KRSWriting For mine I switch POV each chapter. I made sure to add the character’s name at the front of the chapter. That was the only way my brain could wrap itself around multiple POVs.

@KRSWriting I write linearly. The story tells me whose POV I need to be in (who has the most to gain/lose) for each scene but I generally write each scene from both. The first (strongest) gives the scene its emotional weight. The second reacts to it.

@KRSWriting Outline the story in chronological order, ie this event takes place on 3rd May, this event takes place on 6th May etc. Then, place your characters in those events, or have one character per time slot. Plus, think about the biggest impact of character A seeing a particular event.
