Today Her Royal Highness Princess Reema bint Bandar bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz, Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to the United States, participated—alongside the ambassadors of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries in Washington—in a meeting with the U.S. Under Secretary of War for Policy, Mr. Elbridge Colby. The meeting was also attended by the U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of War for the Middle East, Mr. Michael P. Dimino, and the Senior Bureau Official of the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs at the U.S. Department of State, Mr. Robert Palladino, to discuss the latest security developments in the region. During the meeting, participants emphasized the importance of strengthening joint coordination between both sides to address escalating security challenges and to ensure the region’s security and stability, including safeguarding the freedom of air and maritime navigation. This comes in light of ongoing Iranian attacks targeting GCC countries, which have deliberately struck civilians, infrastructure, and critical civilian facilities, constituting a clear and direct violation of sovereignty, as well as international norms and conventions. The meeting also reaffirmed that the security of GCC member states is indivisible and represents a fundamental principle and cornerstone of the GCC Charter. For his part, Mr. Elbridge Colby emphasized the importance of the United States’ partnership with GCC countries, highlighting the pivotal role these states play in operating missile defense systems to counter indiscriminate Iranian attacks on civilian infrastructure and populated areas. In conclusion, he reaffirmed the U.S. Department of War’s intention to further intensify coordination with GCC countries within the framework of the longstanding strategic partnership between the United States and the GCC.
