Because whites are not "a people." There is no common white culture. There are Germans, French, and Spaniards, but not a united "white people."
Also, I'm an American. My identity is based on a shared Constitution and the ideals we've built over 250 years. It's not based on race.

On the Derek Chauvin injustice - the fact that sticks in my memory is that Chauvin was just 5’9’’ with a light build, while George Floyd was at least 6’4’’ and much heavier. I only learned that by watching the trial itself. Media kept that to itself.

This is the most boneheaded decision I’ve seen in a while.
Green card applications are often changes in status for people already in legal working visas.
When I got my green card I was an assistant professor at MIT on an H1B visa. The institute handled all of the paperwork.
The process was still slow, but I could continue working all the time.

This - perhaps intentionally - would make tenure-track positions in the US extremely unattractive to foreigners. In order to get a permanent *visa*, a foreigner on such a position would have to leave the US, thus forfeiting the position.

People may not know that the processing time for green card applications are months to years. So someone could come on a O-1 or H-1B, work for 5 years, become critical in their role, apply, and then have to abandon their job. Incredibly harmful to US industry.
