What not do do while applying to #gsoc
Lee Calcote@lcalcote

As I reapply @mesheryio to Google Summer of Code this year, I've been thinking about a difficult moment from last cycle. It's been 8 months since an abusive message from a non-selected GSoC candidate went viral (and yes, I stand by my 0/10 grammar rating).

@lcalcote I like how Perplexity shipped as a native app before others did.

I originally had high hopes for Gemini with the idea that Drive integration with all of Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Gmail, and so on would be extremely valuable. ChatGPT neutered itself. So did Copilot. Grok is based in reality and will answer plainly and truthfully, actually answering questions that you ask. Antigravity has much promise as does Claude. The developer ecosystem around Claude is compelling with leadership on model context protocol, skills, memory, and multi-agent.

If you had to choose one right now and stick with it forever, which one would it be?

System design just got way more interactive Someone built a web-based System Design Simulator, where you drag & drop architecture components and actually simulate traffic, failures, latency, and scaling in real time,

You can design with thousands of versioned components, validate relationships contextually, then deploy with confidence. This is DevOps maturity.

@therealdanvega Infrastructure as Design is a natural evolution of Infrastructure as Code. @kanvas_new bridges the gap between diagrams (declarative intent) and operational reality.
