Emily Wilson after watching the Odyssey: ‘The film presents an Odysseus who feels very bad about things that he's done in war, and is struggling to process them in a very modern, psychiatrised way – and needs drugs to do so! He seems to feel bad about being a warrior, and we never actually see him get to do much warrioring ... Nolan makes the protagonist a likeable, all-American hero; Homer's Odysseus wants glory, and he wants to get spoils from the sack of a city! I kept looking in vain for a sense that this was a film about glory. This is a film that has an interest in shame, but I don't think it has any interest in glory.’

I’ve often referred to Florida as living in the 90s. Miami is the last great 20th century city.

I remember exactly where I was when I first met Connor Love: near the SFO airport driving down to Palo Alto in 2019. I often connect with veterans, but I remember few calls as vividly as I do my first call with Connor.
He was calling me sometime after midnight from Iraq. He called to tell me he wanted to be a venture capitalist. He had read all the books, listened to all the podcasts. He knew a lot for someone who hadn’t yet moved to the Valley. I tried to convince him that he’d be best served if went to work at Anduril.
“I’m not going to work at Anduril. I want to invest in Anduril. I’m going to be an investor.”
He didn’t equivocate. You could hear in his voice how he talked about investing that he wasn’t going to take no for an answer. So I told him “Why are you calling me? I can’t hire you, but you should email every founder of every firm and hit them with what you just said to me: I’m calling you from Iraq, and I want to be a venture capitalist.”
Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of investing alongside Connor, sitting together in the boardrooms of extraordinary companies like @Castelion, and watching him become not just the leading veteran investor of his generation, but one of the best defense investors in the industry. He leads with conviction, intellectual rigor and an unwavering commitment to the founders and missions he backs.
Connor’s story is American Dynamism. Proud to finally call him my partner.
