I met an options trader today. Age: 61 years Salary: ₹0, he has retired Capital: ₹60L This old man feels lazy and unproductive sitting at home, so he wants to generate income through trading. He doesn’t want to keep his retirement corpus of ₹60L in the bank because it will give him only 7% returns in a year. He thinks he can make 70% returns every month from trading because a social media influencer said so. For the last 15 days, he has been watching 3 hours of content every day and gaining more confidence with each passing day. I asked him which trade he was going to take tomorrow, and he said he was going to buy CEs. I asked him with how much capital, and he said the full ₹60L because he doesn’t want to miss any returns. That was when I realized how much knowledge he ACTUALLY has about trading and whether he will succeed or completely lose his retirement amount. So I explained to him in detail how trading ACTUALLY works, but he didn’t seem to listen. That’s because he has consumed hundreds of online videos that spread the wrong information. He isn’t even listening to his son, who is telling him to live comfortably on FD returns and not trade. This old man is so overconfident that this will trigger a downfall in his life that he may never be able to recover from. Imagine losing your entire retirement corpus just one month after retiring. How will you survive for the rest of your life? This is madness. He will learn the lesson the hard way, which I don’t want, because he doesn’t have a job to recover his losses. May God save him and give him some sense before he makes a big mistake; otherwise, the outcome will be very depressing. This is the problem with retail traders - they become overconfident after listening to fake traders online and refuse to listen to harsh truths.
