I am taking apart and cleaning the Valco 6-way valve in our Thermo Gasbench.

#Stableisotope researchers: My dentist gave me a paste for tooth sensitivity. You put some on the tooth & you can safely swallow after 2 mins. It's made out of milk protein casein--contains Ca & PO4. Do you think this could alter the oxygen isotope comp. of my tooth enamel?🦷

this AGU i've realised that i have a GIANT bee in my bonnet; this bee says "del ≠ delta" and i KNOW that it's a silly overly pedantic bee but at the end of a day watching isotope talks i just can't take anymore 'del-O-18' that or i've just run out of patience for 2020 generally

I have also been fighting a one person battle with journal style guides to italicise the delta and put a space between the numeral and permil symbol as per Coplen 2011 (doi.org/10.1002/rcm.51…) but accept this is a niche pursuit.

@KY_Isotopes I love the TC/EA too! I'm developing a hematite method for oxygen that is looking promising!

Trying to figure out what this tiny little early peak is in my CO chromatogram. I'm thinking probably N2.

@And1129 I tried three different brands of AgCl, all of which had horrible blanks, before settling on 99.99% graphite powder as an additive. Beautiful peaks and reproducibility. People complain about it, but I love the TC/EA. Such a freaky little box.

@KY_Isotopes That's what I was thinking too, but it never occurs with blanks, but always with this one particular reagent: Nickel Carbon wool. Odd.

@KY_Isotopes Those are my two Glycine standards I may have told you about. I synthesized them spiking one with 13C. Delta values are -47.45 and +4.88 per mil VPDB respectively.

@KY_Isotopes @Andrea_Erhardt Some people have no clue about nothing. I admire your patience. I would have returned the crappy samples to sender. Did you tell them to use silicone oil the next time? Even paraffin oil would have been a better choice than vegetable oil.

Collecting samples for d13C in DIC and DOC but can't follow typical preservation methods? We found that even if you can't refrigerate the sample or process it straight away, just filtering the sample was the best method for preventing fractionation. DOI: 10.1002/rcm.8903
