After the blatant discrimination that happened in Jammu-Kashmir and Assam’s delimitation process, the Prime Minister has the gall to say that he will ensure there will be no unfairness in nationwide delimitation. Modi and Shah’s goals are evident - gerrymander in such a way that BJP cannot be defeated in a minimum of 300 out of the 850 seats, keeping them in power for the foreseeable future. Congress party unequivocally supports Women’s Reservation. Parliament unanimously passed the bill in 2023, it is already part of our Constitution. What the government is proposing now has nothing to do with women’s reservation. This amendment is an attempted power grab using delimitation and gerrymandering. We will not allow ‘Hissa Chori’ from OBC, Dalit and Adivasi communities by ignoring the caste census data. We will also not allow Southern, North Eastern, North Western and smaller states to be treated unfairly.

Fully agree with LoP @RahulGandhi ji. Women’s Reservation must ensure true representation, not be diluted through delimitation or by ignoring caste census data. No ‘hissa chori’ of OBC, Dalit and Adivasi communities.

Three Bills are being taken up in the Lok Sabha. The packaging and marketing is women’s reservation but the fundamentals have to do with delimitation. Many concerns have been raised from across the country regarding the delimitation proposals that privilege a few populous states where the BJP is strong now. The relative strength of a number of states in the Lok Sabha will actually decline. The way delimitation has actually been done in Assam and Jammu and Kashmir shows how diabolically the Modi-Shah duo work. The true intent of these Bills is mischievous, their content devious, and their damage enormous. They have to be rejected completely in their present shape and form. The Opposition demand is simple: Reserve one-third of the current strength of the Lok Sabha of 543 for women along with reservation for women belonging to SC, ST, and OBC communities. This was the Opposition’s position in 2023 and this continues to be the position even now. This is true power-sharing and vastly more democratic and in keeping with Constitutional values and principles.

One of the BJP's dangerous plans is to “gerrymander” all Lok Sabha seats to its advantage for the 2029 elections The proposed Bills remove all Constitutional safeguards on delimitation, giving full power to the Delimitation Commission which the govt itself will appoint and direct. We have seen how BJP does this - it hijacked delimitation in Assam and Jammu and Kashmir, where it split up anti-BJP regions and communities for electoral advantage. As a result, - some seats have 25 lakh voters, while some have only 8 lakh - some seats have 12 Vidhan Sabha segments, while some have only 6 - ⁠some seats are broken into pieces without connection, sometimes divided by rivers or mountains Having captured the Election Commission, PM Modi is confident that he can capture the Delimitation Commission too. The Congress will not allow this to happen. Delimitation should be based on a transparent policy framework, developed after wide consultations with a consensus. Indians of all communities and States should feel confident that they will be represented and their voices will be heard. This is the only way forward to protect and strengthen our democracy.

The Census Commissioner has stated that the census data will start becoming available only in 2027. But now the Modi government wants to amend Article 334(A) by stating that the results of the caste census will not be available for some years. It is clear that the Modi government is blatantly lying and spreading confusion on a large scale. The government's real hidden agenda is to avoid conducting a caste census and to deprive OBC women of reservation. In such a scenario, women from the OBC category will not get the opportunity for representation in the Lok Sabha. If such a large section is deprived of reservation in a democracy, it is nothing short of murdering democracy outright. Let me remind you that when Shri Rajiv Gandhi ji brought the 73rd and 74th Constitutional Amendments, provisions for OBC reservation were included in them.
