@ChronoKatie The execution is indeed bad. There were those plotlines with Del Toro and Phasma that didn't seem to go anyway, and none of the characters had the chemistry they had in the first movie. You just can't have a sequel almost obviously dislike its predecessor.

@ChronoKatie I kind of see what you mean, but I disagree. In some ways. Luke being disillusioned was fine. Rey being a nobody and Snoke dying seemed too antagonistic towards TFA's set up of those storylines.

TLJ is a bad movie, but almost no one gets why. The ideas, such as Luke being disillusioned with the force, and Rey being a nobody, are amazing. The actual problem is that they are executed horrendously. The movie also have a HUGE tone problem

@StackScreen7878 @TheCinesthetic I was only 11 at the time and didn't see it in theaters. Once it was on video, everyone was talking about it, saying they couldn't even explain the plot it was so mind blowingly innovative. When I finally watched it, I went; "that's it? It's just about people in a simulation."

@TheCinesthetic Seeing this in theaters was such a treat. I have a very hard time imagining any movie having the same impact in theaters today.

Neo in The Matrix (1999) becoming The One is one of the hardest aura shifts ever put on screen. The second Neo starts seeing the code and casually stops bullets, the entire movie suddenly starts moving at his pace instead.

Hard disagree. The Last Jedi is a masterpiece. The Force Awakens is pretty great. The Rise of Skywalker is the result of an overreaction to the insane backlash of a very vocal group of fans following the release of The Last Jedi.

Given that Nolan’s “Odyssey” looks like garbage, I once again maintain that the only active director capable of seamlessly blending historical authenticity, mythology, and good visuals is Robert Eggers. The man is absolutely dedicated to the periods he covers.
