They can absolutely recreate it eventually. Shadowbringers and Endwalker were as good as they were because it was the coming of an end for a 10 year long story. So many people try to compare Dawntrail to its previous, when Dawntrail should be getting compared to ARR. Its setting a foundation for the future story. Dawntrails story was fine, the English voice acting left a bit much to be desired, but the story was fine for what it was and still is, since post dawntrail is setting up more.

I dont think people realize this is not due to dawntrail being “bad” and more so the popularity they had during shb/ew was like lightning in a bottle, they cant recreate that

Square Enix Q1 2025 financial report shows a really sharp decline in particularly the MMO division with FFXIV YoY after the launch of Dawntrail. MMO gross sales decreased by ¥2.9 billion yen (-23%) and operational profits are down ¥3 billion (-45%) Square Enix shareholder Yuzu writes that something must be done for FFXIV to regain its popularity and user base as it is an important pillar to the company’s HD game sales. He writes that the current increase in stock prices due to the activist funding is inflated and not an accurate reflection of company health.

@aviedwards @JMnThem I've tried them both, It took me probably 2 years to finish BotW and tears I dropped. I always feel too aimless playing them and just do shrines until I get bored.

I completely understand the disappointment for folks who wanted a single-player only title.
For me, it's the triple paywall of buying a Switch 2, The Duskbloods, and THEN Nintendo's online subscription service. That's a STEEP price.
Creatively? I'm all for it. Money-wise? Oof
