Why was Priyadarshini Hakim, daughter of Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim and a close aide of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, seen loitering inside an SIR hearing centre in Ward 77, despite being a resident of Ward 82?
In what official capacity was she present there? And more importantly, why was she interacting with individuals summoned for SIR hearings?
SIR hearing centres are not parks, picnic spots, or political adda zones. They are statutory spaces meant exclusively for electoral verification. Any unauthorised presence raises grave concerns.
Was she attempting to influence or intimidate EROs and AEROs?
Was pressure being exerted to include illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators and Rohingyas in the electoral rolls?
Given her father’s political affiliation and publicly known views, calling non-believers “kafirs,” advocating for Urdu over Bangla, and imagining a “mini Pakistan” in Kolkata, these questions become even more urgent.
Under what authority was she present inside the SIR hearing centre?
Who permitted this blatant breach of electoral neutrality?
The Election Commission must answer.
Democracy cannot be compromised by political entitlement.
