It is a bloodbath, from Surjit Bhalla to Arvind Subramanian, the economists, in deep know of the state of affairs and having worked closely with the current regime, are crying.

I want the Gymkhana Club to survive as a green space in central Delhi and a historical building that records our past. I certainly believe they should offer to change the idea of inherited membership and just cancel that. I have never applied for membership and do not intend to either.

Tried going for a run, but had to turn back home gasping for breath. It’s not just the brutal heat — it’s the suffocating dust and toxic pollution that make it impossible to breathe. Delhi right now feels like a choking inferno. My heart goes out to everyone working long shifts outdoors in these unbearable conditions. Stay safe all.

Nothing exposes the CATASTROPHIC GOVERNANCE DEFICIT of the @narendramodi government more brutally than the collapse of India’s examination system. A government obsessed with slogans, PR, media narratives, and photo-ops has failed to protect the integrity of India’s competitive exams.  Ministers busy targeting and “fixing” the Opposition and “managing” elections, are neglecting the duties of governance. Under Modi, central institutions are either weaponised for political ends or left to decay from within. And the price of this INSTITUTIONAL COLLAPSE is being paid by lakhs of young people.

@_SanjayGupta The Gymkhana club should pay market rent. And it is also time that ministers and high officials occupying huge bungalows in the neighbourhood also pay market rents. Why should taxpayers pay for them? Filmmakers occupying lavish bungalows should also pay extra wealth tax.

A gymkhana paying low rent is an issue but a cricketing body earning thousands of crores paying no taxes is fine. Sab changa…

Most people demanding the closure of the Gymkhana Club seem angry about being denied entry. It is a private club. Having known it well since I was a child it puzzles me that it suddenly became a ‘national security threat’.

@manujosephsan Joseph... There is enough freedom in this country to the extent people were funneling money for years to carry out conversion activities and abusing Hindus and Hindu way of life. Now that silent lot has started giving it back ... this BS intolerance narrative.

The reason why the cockroach party has become so popular in a matter of days is not CIA but the suffocation of free expression in India. You cannot any longer be in mainstream entertainment or journalism, earn well and be free. India has become a Singapore minus the clean air. So any truly entertaining dissent (which activists normally are incapable of) becomes a huge relief for millions. This is not to say the Congress party was some beacon of freedom. I remember, under Congress rule, when Tavleen Singh came up with her saas-bahu memoirs she had kept the press launch very quiet for the fear of the Gandhis. Just that the Congress was such an inefficient organisation it was incompetent in administering even fear. But the BJP is good at this sort of a thing. Moral of the tweet is that if the BJP doesn't want real dissent it should allow some mainstream freedom of expression.

The dasha of the 12th lord can often free you from existing bondages and attachments. I have observed people voluntarily leaving jobs or being compelled to step away from them during the 12th lord’s dasha, or even during the dasha of planets placed in the 12th house.

After Surjit Bhalla, another prominent voice who was once seen as strong critic of previous regime and supportive of the current government’s economic direction now appears more critical. Interestingly, this comes from the author of The Accidental Prime Minister It raises an interesting question: 👉Is the economy facing deeper challenges than we currently realize? When long-time supporters start changing their tone, it naturally invites curiosity about what they may be seeing differently now.
