Nitish Kumar's act of pulling down a girl's hijab is NOT about a debate around the veil. A man cannot touch a woman's face/body -a woman he does not know, a woman he is more powerful than, without her consent. Simple. It is entirely inappropriate.

We've normalised disrespect to Muslim women by linking feminist ideals to the veil. If a Muslim man pulled off a Hindu woman's ghoonghat using the same feminist ideals, he would have been killed by angry mobs. Are veils discriminatory? If forced, yes. But forceful removal not ok.

A woman should have choice. The choice to wear a ghunghat. The choice to wear a hijab. You may disagree with her choice, but you have no right to disrespect it by forcibly disrobing her in public.
