In this short story we highlighted known role of #neuromodulators in driving #sexually_dimorphic #behaviors in the olfactory system.

Glad to share our review article on how different neuromodulators regulate olfactory system and behavior in mosquitoes. #Mosquitoes primarily use sense of smell to find human by detecting odor molecules from skin and breath.

Brain Wave Phase Locking May Be Key to Unconsciousness A new study shows that ketamine and dexmedetomidine, though molecularly distinct, produce a shared signature of unconsciousness by altering brain wave phase alignment. Both drugs increase phase locking at low frequencies, particularly between brain hemispheres, while disrupting local alignment within the cortex. This suggests that phase relationships between brain waves—not just their power—are critical for maintaining consciousness. Researchers observed that during unconsciousness, local communication within brain regions fell apart, while interhemispheric alignment increased. This reversal of the normal conscious-state pattern could provide anesthesiologists with a reliable, drug-independent measure of patient unconsciousness. The findings also open new avenues for understanding how consciousness is generated in the brain.
