when I got my degree in history with a concentration in medieval Europe, I did not foresee my knowledge of mad emperors attacking the pope would become useful again

“Pope Leo is WEAK on Crime,” begins a Sunday evening message from the President. Also: “Leo should get his act together as Pope.”

Pressure is building in Venezuela.
Unlike China, the USA cannot fully supply Venezuela with the goods it needs. America lacks the production capacity and the supply networks required to support the entire country.
The key issue is thay even with American sanctions in place, Venezuela under Maduro was still able to trade with China.
They exchanged oil for products, medicines, and other essential goods on a barter basis. After relations with China broke down, inflation exploded. It reached 649.5 percent by March 2026. The International Monetary Fund expects it to go above 682 percent by the end of the year.
Right now Venezuelas oil money is being sent to a special account controlled by the US Treasury.
Remember that the United States has also essentially seized Venezuelas gold reserves. These moves are speeding up the collapse of the national currency. The situation is spiraling out of control.

Netanyahu sent his son to campaign for Orbán. Netanyahu sent a personal video to Orbán's rally. Orbán just lost by 14 points, the biggest landslide in Hungarian democratic history.
Why did Netanyahu care so much?
Because Orbán was the only EU leader who vetoed sanctions on Israel. Every single time. That veto is gone. The ICC withdrawal is reversed.
The EU firewall is dead.
Israel's own Ynet News headline, two days ago: "If Orbán falls, Israel could lose its EU firewall." He didn't just fall.
He was buried.

@MatthewCoast Being alone feels safe for some people because they know what to expect with themselves.
There is safety & security in being alone when the people around you created chaos & inconsistency.

The math on Mexico's healthcare decree tells a story the US should find embarrassing.
Mexico spends $1,588 per person on healthcare. The US spends $12,914. That's 8x more per capita.
Mexico's life expectancy: 75.5 years. America's: 77.5. So the US pays 8x more for 2 extra years of life.
The decree unifies three fragmented public systems (IMSS, ISSSTE, IMSS-Bienestar) into one. Any citizen walks into any public hospital. No enrollment barriers. No network restrictions. Registration starts this month for seniors 85+, full rollout by 2028.
Mexico has 1.0 hospital beds per 1,000 people. The OECD average is 4.2. They have 2.7 doctors per 1,000 vs the OECD's 3.9. The infrastructure gap is real, and critics are right that no budget has been attached.
But the design principle is what matters. Mexico looked at its fragmented system and said: the problem is that which hospital you can visit depends on which employer you have. So they're removing that constraint entirely.
The US looked at the same fragmentation problem and built an $800 billion insurance industry around it.

Mexico's President just made a life-changing decree, giving every Mexican universal health care. Their goal is for everyone in Mexico to have access to healthcare if they need it, regardless of income, and it'll be fully rolled out by 2028.

250 million trees planted by Israel over razed Palestinian villages are dying.
"They destroyed hundreds of Palestinian villages and planted Aleppo pines over the ruins. They tried to use this to clean up their image—and at the same time prevent Palestinians from returning to their homes.”
They didn’t just want the land. They wanted it to look as European as possible, through what is known as “green colonialism.”
As a result, emptied and destroyed villages have been turned into colonizing forests of European pine, with a life expectancy of barely 80 years—highly flammable and incompatible with this semi-arid land.
“Because it’s a monoculture, a fire or a pest can wipe it out completely, and it cannot regenerate.”
Most of Israeli territory is not naturally forested. That’s why, as you can see, the pines are drying out, dying over green grass—an epidemic that is already creating vast stretches of grey, lifeless forest.
"Unfortunately for the Zionist project, these pines have not been able to adapt to Palestinian land. They have been highly susceptible to fires.”
This mass plantation, carried out in the 1950s, is now an ecological catastrophe. Just a year ago, Jerusalem experienced one of the largest waves of forest fires in its history—and climate change is making the situation worse by the day.
“They demand too much water for what is available, especially in the southern half of Palestine, which is closer to a desert landscape.”
A consequence of Israel’s own colonial policies—this time, turning against them.

I understand it can be hard for readers halfway around the world to absorb headlines like this over & over. Fatigue for stories of faraway grief is natural.
But every one of these families is shattered, possibly beyond repair. Please do read what my colleagues are documenting.

Not just this — the Iranians said that after the call, the US delegation mostly wanted to discuss Israel’s demands. Netanyahu called to tell the US what to say. Pathetic ‘superpower’ on its way out.

Excuse me, WHAT?! Netanyahu called Vance DURING the meeting?!
