A couple of questions: 1) If Iran had captured a US pilot, why would he be a "hostage" and not a prisoner of war? 2) If Iran were carpet-bombing the US, and the US captured an Iranian pilot, would you call him a hostage or a prisoner of war?

President Donald Trump admitted on Sunday that the United States attempted to send weapons to anti-government protesters in Iran earlier this year, speaking in a phone interview with Fox News’ Trey Yingst. Trump claimed “a lot of guns” were sent “through the Kurds,” but said he believes the weapons never reached demonstrators, suggesting Kurdish intermediaries “kept them.” He also asserted that “45,000” protesters were “slaughtered” during unrest in January 2026. That figure is unsubstantiated and widely disputed. Iranian authorities have reported roughly 3,100 deaths, including about 300 police and security personnel.

Lebanon - Around 2pm Sunday, Israeli forces struck a densely populated residential area in Beirut, only meters from Rafik Hariri Public Hospital, where MSF is supporting with an ER doctor. A mass-casualty influx followed: people bleeding, some carried on shoulders. In the first hour, 4 were killed and nearly 40 injured; more casualties are feared as rubble is cleared. “We are seeing elderly people and adolescents arriving with critical injuries to the head, chest and abdomen, including shrapnel wounds,” says Dr. Luna Hammad, MSF Medical Coordinator, from the ER at Rafik Hariri Public Hospital. “When strikes hit crowded residential areas without warning, the consequences are severe: both in human casualties and in hospitals’ capacity to respond.” MSF condemns this attack on civilians in a highly populated area and calls for the protection of civilians and health facilities. Strikes this close to a hospital spread fear and can stop people from seeking lifesaving care. MSF is donating a mass-casualty kit and will continue supporting hospitals with medical expertise and essential medical and non-medical supplies. Civilians cannot be collateral damage.

U.S.-Israeli strikes have killed Abolfazl Dehnavi, a 20-year-old volunteer with the Iranian Red Crescent Society, who was killed on April 4 in Isfahan province while carrying out humanitarian work, according to the @ifrc. Dehnavi is the fourth Red Crescent volunteer killed since the war began on February 28. All humanitarian workers have been killed while responding to strikes and aiding civilians.

The conviction of Chris Nineham and Ben Jamal will be appealed. But while that happens two more leaders of the anti-war movement, @CNDuk GS @SK_Bolt and StW chair @Alex_Kenny_NEU will face prosecution on charges arising from the same demonstration. In all, this marks the single most sustained legal offensive against leaders of social movements since at least the 1950s. The fight to defend civil liberties will be sustained in the courts, but can only really be won in the streets. The only sure way to defend the right to protest is by exercising it.
