Ten years after the UN Security Council adopted resolution 2286, reaffirming protection of medical facilities and personnel, attacks on healthcare still continue. That attacks still occur is a failure of political will.  msf.org/joint-call-icr…

10 years ago today, the UN Security Council adopted Resolution 2286. Over 80 Member States committed to protect medical humanitarian work. Yet @MSF is sharing the same message from 2016: 🔴 Stop bombing hospitals. 🔴 Stop bombing health workers. 🔴 Stop bombing patients.

On 27 April, eight wounded children from Gaza, along with their caregivers, arrived in Amman, Jordan, to our reconstructive surgery hospital. They were medically evacuated in collaboration with the Jordanian Ministry of Health, and are the first patients to arrive in three months due to the regional conflict. The children are suffering from complex injuries caused by Israeli airstrikes, including fractures and infections. Among them is Rafeef, 17 years old, who requires a second leg amputation due to his injuries. He was unable to receive the specialised care he needs in Gaza, as the health system has been destroyed. “We have been waiting for months for these patients,” says Dr Feras, MSF’s medical referral coordinator at the hospital. “Evacuations stalled after the borders closed. Seraj, 11, waited over a year for his approval. His complex injuries required an additional ambulance for safe transfer.” Medical evacuations from Gaza are still hampered by administrative barriers. The number of people able to leave the Strip remains a drop in the ocean compared to the needs. According to the WHO, 18,500 critical patients, including 4,000 children, still require urgent evacuation from Gaza. We call on the Israeli authorities to ensure medical evacuations for all Palestinians, while ensuring patients and caregivers a safe, voluntary and dignified return to Gaza. The siege must be lifted to allow lifesaving aid to reach those who need it.

Engine oil is essential to keep generators and vehicles running. Without it, hospitals, water systems and transport come to a halt, putting lives at risk. 🚨 In Gaza, engine oil supplies are rapidly depleting as Israeli authorities restrict its entry. In the coming weeks, some of our projects are expected to run out. When that happens, critical medical services will be disrupted. We urgently call on the Israeli authorities to allow the immediate entry of sufficient essential supplies, including engine oil. Lives depend on it.

💉 Diphtheria is a vaccine-preventable disease. Yet, it continues to claim lives in Nigeria, driven by low immunisation rates, conflict, insecurity, and malnutrition.  📸 In Bauchi state, we worked alongside the State Ministry of Health to vaccinate children. #WorldImmunizationWeek
