It is crucial that the UK Government honours and steps up its own global commitments to supporting the most marginalised people, including older people, to adapt and build resilience to climate change. 8/9

We hope the development reviews underway in the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office will result in a truly inclusive perspective on climate change and climate action that the UK can take to influence other stakeholders at the next COP in Brazil. 9/9

The overall outcomes of COP29 are hugely disappointing for older people. It is the most marginalised people, including older people in low and middle-income countries, who will suffer due to the failures of leaders of wealthier countries. 1/9 🧵 #COP29

The climate emergency is a story of avoidable injustice. The rich cause the problem, the poor pay the highest price. The most vulnerable are being abandoned to climate extremes. We need climate justice. Now. #COP29

The UK Budget decreases the amount of money to help those most in need around the world, including older people. More can be done and Age International expects the Government to put the rights and needs of older people at the heart of its approach to international development.

I joined @decappeal to discuss how they are raising millions for the humanitarian situation in the Middle East, which we are match funding. I am appalled by the images of suffering in the region. We urgently need to see aid getting into Gaza and de-escalation across the region.

@rachelparris This is appalling. To deny women to even have solidarity amid such madness is beyond words.

UPDATE 🚨 The date is set. We’ll be back in court the first week of December to #DefendDemocracy We won our case against anti-protest laws which completely ignored the will of Parliament, but Gov is appealing These laws should never have been made & MUST be thrown out for good

🚨 BREAKING 🚨 The NEW Government are CONTINUING to appeal our legal challenge of anti-protest powers brought in by former Home Secretary Suella Braverman. This is a CONCERNING DISREGARD for the rule of law. Watch + Share ⬇️

It's crucial that this Government steps up to protect the rights of older people globally, in order to meet it's wider commitments to international development, humanitarian emergencies, tackling climate change and gender inequality. Please support our campaign.

@DavidLammy @kewgardens It is good to see the UK Government centralise climate change and to recognise the relevance to #LeaveNoOneBehind. Looking forward to seeing action and finance that reaches the most marginalised groups, including older people.
