4) The difficulty is that facts gathered - at expense - by newspapers make their way into social media and other channels, where they become free. Newspapers are the backbone of factgathering. So subscribe – local, national, global, what have you! OK, that’s my 1st-ever “thread.”

3)The reason newspapers are struggling is because fewer people are reading them. Is it because of a quality decline? Hard to generalize, but imo competing in online spaces has in many cases forced better, more succinct writing that is responsive to audiences.

(2) It’s imperative that the next generation knows where to get solid news. I grew up battling for my turn at the WaPo sports section. So I knew what a newspaper was, unlike many kids these days.
