Today marks 32 years since the Warrington bombing, which killed Tim Parry and Johnathan Ball, and injured many others. We remember all those affected.

For many NHS staff, the recent racist violence in this country will leave them feeling afraid and unwelcome. To those colleagues, our message is simple: you are welcome and you are valuable members of our community. Reach out for support if you need it. england.nhs.uk/supporting-our…

Just a reminder that from the day it launched on 5 July 1948, the NHS has relied on staff from across the world - from the Windrush Generation of 1948 to today’s workforce, represented by over 200 nationalities. Thank you to each and every one of them!

I’m proud that people from nearly 200 countries work in our NHS. I completely condemn this racist violence and stand with our staff and the communities they live and work in. Thank you to our emergency services who are working hard to keep everyone safe.

Let’s take a critical look at this question: “How can we encourage more people to engage with our service?" This sort of question leads so many public services and charities to a dead end. Savvy practitioners don't 'get' people to engage. Instead, they listen to what they are passionate about and then support them in working in solidarity with others to pursue their passions. It's not about coercing people to do what we want, nor is it about only involving people to promote our services. The pursuit of institutional goals is not the sole purpose of life. We must discard unproductive questions that let down communities and exhaust practitioners to make progress. Instead, we should ask community-centered questions that enable communities and liberate citizens and practitioners to play to their strengths for the common good. Better questions lead to better outcomes.
