'WORST OF THE WORST': Prosecutors are scrambling to stop the parole release of a serial child predator in California. 64-year-old David Funston was cleared for release under the state's elderly parole program after being sentenced to life in 1999 for kidnapping and sexually assaulting multiple children. Sacramento County Sheriff Jim Cooper says Funston is "not rehabilitated" and a "definite danger" to the community: "A judge described him as 'the monster parents fear the most.' Yet today, the parole board has determined he is suitable for release. How do they explain that to those children and their parents? How do they tell families that a predator of this nature is no longer a risk?"
