Stop telling us pensions are up. Indexation is not a rise. There was a minuscule increase for jobseekers, but people are still hurting. Wages might have risen, but that was more than eaten up by the cost of housing alone. God I hate people

People are “reoffending” in order to get three meals a day and a roof over their head in literal prison and the coroner is begging the government to do something about housing because people are dying because of it, and in response our government has decided to ban kids from social media just before an election instead of doing anything about this.

Or you could address poverty directly so parents can afford presents for their kids. The problem with getting presents from charities is they don't know the child. When I was a kid the one thing I begged for every year was a science kit but those buying presents for the wishing

The Kmart Wishing Tree helps make Christmas a little bit brighter for so many families in need. I'm proud it has support from across the Parliament. A huge thanks to all the Salvation Army volunteers, and to all those donating presents to this worthy cause.

@kristin8X In hindsight, I would have become an electrician. But when I was growing up, if you were good academically it was expected that you should go to uni. So I did. And it will take me 40 years to recover from that expectation.

It’s very simple folks, at 18 you just need to predict how your life and the economy will play out for the next 20 years or so to make a smart investment decision on whether or not you can afford the luxury of education :)
Christopher Hill@Snarky_gnome

@kristin8X Maybe, just maybe, if you can’t pay your degree off - don’t do it. Become a plumber or electrician instead, make over $100k per year.

@ArtistAffame You'd think that with so many Labor MPs being elected purely on preference flows from the Greens it would give them an ounce of humility. Alas, no.

Single parents in Australia are owed $3.7bn in child support. The latest research shows the rate of poverty in single parent households is more than three times that of coupled parents. Rates of severe and extreme poverty were also higher. theguardian.com/society/2024/o…

If you have to do work for the dole to get a measley poverty payment or you get cut off that is in fact being forced 🤦‍♀️ I do plenty of work in my community with out adding to the profits of “charities”
Elg@elg123

@ArtistAffame @kristin8X @SkepticalMutant Hardly forced! Working for these days is a feel good experience and provides training and experience plus socialization! The people I know genuinely want to do this rather than some other work
