I can’t stop thinking about the suggestion that most roads in Los Angeles could lose a lane and be totally fine from a car traffic perspective. This is from an LADOT engineer.

@gatodejazz @MobilityForWho LADOT is responsible for traffic control devices (signs, markings, curb zones, traffic signals and beacons), parking meters and operates DASH and Commuter Express buses.

My fellow civil servants have pushed me to clarify, dot is responsible for *planning infrastructure from curb-to-curb (on roadways, which are primarily made of asphalt) and dpw is responsible for sidewalks (concrete) and all materials themselves.

I feel nuts every time I say “LADOT is responsible for asphalt but BSS/Engineering is responsible for concrete”. We (electeds/staff) have an ongoing job that’s not just about building a vision but also bridging these communication gaps and advocating for new gov structure

The visibility of the new infrastructure is raising Qs about why it’s not better from neighbors. The answer is “this is the process, responsibility is complicated” but people shouldn’t accept that. LA shouldn’t have 3+ depts/bureaus for streets! It’s nuts!

@CarterRubin @BSSLosAngeles That’s what LADOT said when we talked about it last week: BSS data isn’t updated to reflect that the bike lane exists yet, but it will be. They said they’ll follow up to make sure it’s in good condition for the event in July.
