@WrightMath314 @MrsGallardo1 Being able to understand what someone is feeling. For children, empathy is something we have to teach them early on because children are so egocentric. We have to take the responsibility upon ourselves to teach them to thing about others and how they feel.

@WrightMath314 @MrsGallardo1 I will model what I want to see in my students. We must lead by example. I will set clear expectations and share how we can help each other. But it all starts with me and the environment I provide for them. #EDEL5200

@WrightMath314 @MrsGallardo1 I can be an advocate 2 my students by listening and treating them as individuals. When we just group them, students may fall through the cracks. Also many times, students don't have anyone to listen to their wants and needs. I have to be that trustworthy adult 4 them #EDEL5200

@WrightMath314 @joboaler @MrsGallardo1 Lessons are ideally short and both teachers and parents can do with students. Many of the activities involved are games (many group games) that keep students engaged. And students like to learn the different ways one answer emerges.

@WrightMath314 @joboaler @MrsGallardo1 The best alternative to timed tests is not to time the students in the test. We as teachers have to guide them how to complete the work correctly so we can teach them to concentrate on accuracy and not focus on the time. Doing this students will alleviate the pressure of anxiety.

@ms_nagua @WrightMath314 @joboaler @MrsGallardo1 Hello! I agree about confidence levels. Students need to feel like math can be accomplished! Test anxiety in itself is very real. Adding a timer is harsh. And these things do not correctly reflect students' abilities.

@WrightMath314 @joboaler @MrsGallardo1 The pressure to memorize math facts in a timed test is a big reason for math anxiety. Students' confidence goes down when they do not perform well on a timed test. This makes them turn away from math. #EDEL5200

@WrightMath314 @MrsGallardo1 @joboaler The best way to introduce a student to the theory of flexibility with numbers is to simply show them that numbers within a math problem can be changed to better solve the problem. This happens with Number Talks and the teacher cultivating feedback from students.

@WrightMath314 @MrsGallardo1 @joboaler @MrsGallardo1 The memorization of math facts is “unnecessary and damaging” because it does not allow the students to understand how they came to the conclusion of that answer. Since math can be challenging, students should always be able to explain their work.
