Day 13 update: Talked to both of my surgeons today. Looks like I should go home tomorrow. I got another drain removed. They'll take out the last one tomorrow. I can expect the swelling to last for months maybe even up to a year. I can't swallow well so all food and water requirements will be through my feeding tube. I got up and walked again today with the help of a walker. That's getting better so I don't think I'll need a walking aid for too long. Pathology report sounds pretty good except for questionable lymph nodes. I'm sure I'll do another chemotherapy regiment. All in all I'm in pretty good shape. I'm happy with it. FUCK CANCER

When I naturalized in 1989, my bosses (a law office) gave me a paid day off for my swearing-in ceremony. My boyfriend and his parents + my best friend came to the court house and watched me and ~ two dozen others from around the world become American citizens. When I returned to work the next day, my coworkers had decorated my cubicle with red, white, and blue balloons and ribbons. I loved everything about it, although at the time Germany required me to relinquish its citizenship. On my first day as an American by choice I ordered my first American passport and registered to vote. I know exactly how that nice guy in the video felt.
