Good evening Crime Watch. I am carrying a very heavy burden on my heart and I need help understanding what to do. We bought a residential stand in Graceland last year, but it later turned out that we were sold a non-existent stand. The man who sold it to us is Tinashe Maduza, a former ZANU PF MP from Kambuzuma. In the early days, whenever we tried to contact him, he would say he was in meetings with the President, possibly to intimidate us. We later took the matter to the police. He was previously a cooperative chairman but was dismissed over allegations of theft, which we only discovered later. We paid him $4,000 because he claimed the stand cost $8,000 for a 200m² plot. At the time, we did not fully understand the correct procedures for buying land. We later went to the Surveyor General’s office, where we were told that no such stand number exists. We then asked for our money back. He initially refunded $600 and promised to pay the balance, but since then he has become unreachable. We reported the matter to the police, but we were told that since he had partially refunded the money, it had become a civil case. We proceeded with the civil case, but we spent a lot on legal paperwork. We later discovered Legal Aid, which helped us get a lawyer. The lawyer assisted us until we eventually won the case, and the court ordered him to repay our money. However, the problem now is that even after winning the case, nothing is happening. Our lawyer sent the matter back to Legal Aid, but communication has become very poor. Sometimes he does not answer calls, and when he does, he is not helpful. The last step we were told was that attachment papers needed to be filed, but since then there has been no progress. It has now been more than a month since the judgment was passed. Where do I report this now? It feels like we are trying to follow the law properly, but people are just after money. I am even starting to suspect that our lawyer may not be acting in our best interest, because the person who lost the case has still not paid us, and no enforcement action is being taken. This situation is very stressful for us. I understand the amount may seem small to others, but for us it was money saved over many years. Please help us, what steps should we take next?
