My Dear KWASU Staff and Students, As the Rain semester gets off in earnest across our 3 campuses and the College of Health Sciences, I am glad to inform you that your University is starting the 2nd half on an excellent footing with the full reaccreditation of the 9 undergraduate programmes presented in the October/November 2025 round of accreditation. As contained in the earlier release to this effect, this success was by the collective drive of all staff, both academic and non-teaching, and the support of the Kwara State Government under His Excellency, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq CON. This is coming on the heels of our MBBS programme receiving the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria’s accreditation in March 2026 to advance to the clinicals. Teams from the National Universities Commission (NUC) have visited for a series of resource verifications, the exercise that precedes the commencement of new programmes. We are optimistic that God is on our side and that the KWASU spirit that motivates both staff and students to put in their utmost best will lead to more successes in this exercise, among others. Following Senate approval for the release of the Harmattan Semester results, two matters that need to be put in proper perspective have come up. The first is that of the *Professional/Sundry fee that all KWASU students are to pay and the restriction on intra-campus shuttle movement*. The Professional/Sundry Fee was initially billed to be paid at the beginning of the Harmattan Semester, but the various student associations and the umbrella Student Union pleaded that the fee be moved to the Rain Semester to spread the payment. The various student associations and the Student Union signed undertakings to that effect. I must reiterate that *this fee is not a result-checking charge as being touted. Rather, it is a fee that Management, in its magnanimity, moved to the Rain Semester in response to the students’ plea*. Kwara State University, Malete, is a foremost institution in Nigeria and beyond, which operates and promotes core values, among which are integrity, commitment, and resilience. Towards the end of the Harmattan Semester, the University experienced the tragic and unfortunate death of a student in an accident with one of the shuttle buses on our Malete campus. Management’s decision to summarilly restrict intra-campus shuttle was to prevent any such reoccurrence, especially when our earlier efforts to curb the overzealousness of the shuttle drivers within the campus did not yield the result we needed. Kwara State University, Malete, cherishes her students. We will do everything possible to prevent a reoccurrence of that unfortunate incident. Consequently, the shuttle system will continue to ply *only the tarmac to the main parking lot on campus and back. Intra-campus shuttle movement remains restricted*. I urge my dear Great KWASUITES to enjoy the serenity that we now have as they move from the park on campus to their various lecture venues. Staff, students, and visitors to our campus can attest to the fact that since the restriction, the untoward driving of the shuttles and the near accidents on campus that were a daily occurrence have been eradicated. Beyond these, I urge everyone on all our campuses to be law-abiding and go about their business while enjoying the beautiful, clean, green campus that is the hallmark of Kwara State University, Malete. It can only get better as your University continues to grow from strength to strength. I look forward to a robust, engaging, and fulfilling Rain Semester as I know you all are, too. See you around campus. Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh Vice-Chancellor Kwara State University, Malete April 27, 2026

KWASU Student Makes History with First Solo Flight Teslimat Abiola Nurudeen, a final-year student of the Department of Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering of Kwara State University has made history by becoming the first undergraduate from the institution to complete a solo flight at the Ilorin International Airport. The historic moment occurred on April 20, 2026, when the young aviator successfully piloted an aircraft alone in a 24-minute circuit flight around the airport after months of rigorous training, including ground school, simulator sessions and supervised flights. Receiving her in his office, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, described the achievement as exceptional and praised Teslimat for combining academic work with intensive pilot training. He added that her success would inspire more students, especially young women, to pursue careers in engineering and aviation. The Dean, Faculty of Engineering, Professor Abdulraheem Toyin Abdulbaqi, and the Head of Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering Department, Dr. Taofiq Omoniyi Amoloye also commended the student, describing the feat as a record-breaking milestone for the university. Present during the reception were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Moshood Mahmud Jimba; the University Bursar, Mallam Muhammad Abubakar; and the student’s father and Deputy Director, Work, Engineer Idris Nurudeen.
