This is a mistake that leads to a smaller life of increased confusion and stress, as one's understanding of the world and self suffers, along with mental preparedness and other knock-on effects. It is negative momentum; regression. But disconnecting (not caring) is attractive because, no matter how well informed, individual citizens alone really don't have much direct power over these stressors originating from closed doors on high. Social influence is probably most significant of those few powers an individual alone has. Staying aware and vocal, being a beacon of composed sanity in whatever chaos, and bringing others into the fold of respectful and earnest conversation goes a long way in affecting culture and voting trends over time in a grassroots way. Just think for a moment if EVERYBODY cared about the same thing how different everything around that thing would likely be. But we're all scattered in the realm of ideas. It seems impossible to get everyone on the same page, so to speak, but that gets much more possible if everyone is reading in the first place! Then, comes on the same subject. And then, in the same books. And, before you know it, we're synced up, to the word; even reading to each other. Of course, this is analogy. I'm not actually talking about reading. (Although everyone reading more WOULD be a boon to practically everything. 😁) Our DIRECT power is not alone but in collective action. That can take many forms depending on the problem needing solution. Sometimes we can simply organize to take matters into our own hands as a group. Sometimes all we can do is protest, so it is important that protest is serious and organized, not ending (even escalating where appropriate) until hard demands are met or acceptable compromise made. Civil rights movements of the past are good examples of that. Where unions have succeeded in countering oppression is the blueprint for taking on any form of pyramidal hierarchy. A general strike is powerful because everything grinds to a halt without our labor. We, our cultures, and thus our world thrive by average, overwhelmed people staying involved in SOME way. It's simply a matter of calibrating what one can personally bear, psychologically and in workload, and then, finding or creating opportunities in that space that at least feel like they're making a difference. In chaos, create sense and hope.
