The same has been felt by Asians when applying to selective colleges for decades. We knew our children had to accomplish way above others to earn the limited spots Ivy+ were willing to give us. The SFFA v Harvard case revealed the extent of the discrimination. Even with SCOTUS ruling that affirmative action is unconstitutional, medical schools like UCLA and Yale continue to evade. Thank goodness @CivilRights @AAGDhillon are pursuing them to comply.

Horrible!!😢 Missing Eufaula Teen Found Shot, Dismembered, Burned 😢. A desperate search for the missing teen ended in horror when his parents found his body in a wooded area in Barbour County. His family says Markavious was last seen May 7 after leaving with a “friend”. The family says Markavious had been shot, dismembered, and set on fire. Investigators have not released an official cause of death.

Schools like Yale are not sitting around “recruiting by MCAT score.” They receive applications from enormous numbers of academically exceptional students.
The MCAT is part of the screening process for academic readiness. After that, certain applicants pique interest for many different reasons.
For one student it may be extraordinary research. For another it may be leadership, creativity, military service, community engagement, overcoming adversity, communication skills, or evidence of unusual maturity and commitment to medicine.
The mistake people keep making is imagining admissions committees operate like a sorting algorithm where the highest score automatically equals the most interesting or promising future physician.

@drterrysimpson Dr. Simpson, why are Blacks who score in the 99th percentile on the MCAT so heavily recruited? 1/1000 score that well, but if 95th is just as good, why make special efforts for the 99th or for that matter, for Whites or Asians at the 99th? Resilience, empathy, leadership matter?

The 2023 Affirmative action SCOTUS decision revealed although Harvard is 15.3% Black, only 10% of the Black population is native Black American. Literally 90% of Harvard’s Black student body are immigrants or the children of immigrants from Africa and the Caribbean. Even though 88% of the Black population in America descends from US slavery. Immigrants are playing both sides of the argument. SFFA V Howard reaffirmed recompense should be harm based not race based. Only the decendants of American slavery have been harmed here.

In The Mississippi Chinese: Between Black and White, James Loewen reveals that Berda Lum Chan, one of the daughters of the plaintiffs in the Lum v. Rice case, resents the discrimination she suffered from whites in Mississippi and in Houston where she later came to reside.

You have finally abandoned the euphemisms and said what you actually believe: that Black professionals are presumptively inferior unless they outperform everyone else by overwhelming margins. A person scoring in the 95th percentile becomes “unqualified” the moment they are Black. That is not meritocracy - Perhaps you are upset that there are actually students who would score better than you would, that are superior to you in test scores, and superior to any medical school in the state of California. Where is the racism here? Oh wait - we see it.
