Detroit Lions President Rod Wood on the Frank Ragnow situation 😳 “I don’t really have much MORE to say than I said… we have to do what’s RIGHT for our organization, if I’m worried about OPTICS you wouldn’t do A LOT of things…” (🎥: @Lions | #OnePride )

@AlexAnzalone34 Rod Wood is a POS. He's just greedy. I mean after one winning season he jacked season ticket prices to near top of the league after being at the bottom. He is the same way with fans that he is players. He can't retire fast enough. Good riddance!!

This is interesting. It feels like it’s obvious that Frank retired because he was physically fighting through injuries and pain, and it got to a point that he no longer could play the game in an enjoyable, effective, or healthy way. The whole purpose of a signing bonus is to be a guarantee up front that insures a salary irregardless of performance metrics, or most importantly injuries that could compromise your career in the future. What makes this interesting is that Frank likely retired “voluntarily”, meaning, he wasn’t declared medically unfit to play by a doctor, which allows the team to ask for a prorated amount of his signing bonus back. Had he been medically deemed unfit to play football by a doctor before he retired, the team wouldn’t be able to recoup part of the signing bonus. Let me say this first, if a player truly just retires without reason, or because they’ve lost the desire to play, I completely get and acknowledge teams should be able to recoup compensation when players don’t fulfill there contractual obligations and agreements. However, Frank was known for being hurt and playing through injuries most players wouldn’t play through constantly. Broken foot, a torn pec, multiple knee injuries, back issues. There was always something, and I’m sure he was continuously dealing with multiple ailments to try and continue playing the game. His body clearly had deteriorated to a degree that made football no longer a viable option, physically, and probably mentally. In my opinion, the signing bonus is supposed to protect players from future physical ailments limiting their availability on the field, that’s one of the reasons you want more guaranteed money upfront. So while I get that the team has a right to ask for money back, in the spirit of the agreement, I think it’s bullshit Frank is being asked to return money. This was clearly a player that the game had physically taken its toll on, and his body was clearly no longer holding up to the rigors of the NFL. It wasn’t just some player deciding he didn’t want to play anymore, it wasn’t that simple, and these signing bonuses are there to protect players from the inevitable injuries they incur on the field.

@TJLang70 Could it be that the timing of Frank's retirement made the Lions salty? It effectively did ruin their seaon... I mean he did it after Free Agency and the Draft and they clearly had no contigency plan. Retiring right before camp is a bit low.

It is what it is. Everyone knows it. Bottom line is if you want to protect your money, make them release you. You lose all leverage when you retire.

The #Lions made Frank Ragnow return part of his signing bonus after retiring early, continuing a franchise policy that dates back to Barry Sanders and Calvin Johnson, per President Rod Wood, via @DaveBirkett: “Our precedent goes all the way back to Barry Sanders… And I think the reality is, they’re not paying back their money, they’re returning our money, because they were paid in advance for services that they hadn’t completed.” More here: freep.com/story/sports/n…

@JasonKelce I think the team probably expected him to let the team know before the draft. He retired after free agency and the draft and effectively ruined the teams year. If that was his intent, he should have let the team know a month earlier. This might be the way the team sees it.

@lions @RodWood_Lions Give the money back to @KNARFWONGAR!! What are you doing?! You're bleeding the fanbase dry on ticket prices 1 season after having a winning record, but you DO NOT get to do this. Frank gave the Lions and the fans everything he had. Make this right!!

Hot take but I kinda like how Blizzard has been mostly unapologetic moving on from the factions since the 4th war and more on specific racial divides. Meanwhile it's kinda cringe seeing some still doing the faction scorekeeping as if there was ever going to be a winner.

@Bigmoranx I think it is fair to say at this point Ian Hazzikostas has been a terrible choice to fill Tom Chilton’s shoes. He’s just been terrible for the game. He sees everything through the lens of hardcore raiders and designs the game around it.

So let me get this straight. Blizzard "removes" WeakAuras to make boss mechanics less trivial. Months later RWF guilds have WeakAuras v2 with 95% the same functionality... ...and are now CLEARING bosses faster than before? Is this right?
