@flemingrut In my recent retirement, my wife and I attend a local Anglican Church. (The rector is a Wycliffe graduate.) The Ash Wednesday service was from the Book of Common Prayer and was most powerful. My confirmation classes begin next week.

Ash Wednesday. I'm not a fan of "ashes to go" or indeed of ashes at all (Mt 6:1-4). And the litany of the 1979 BCP is not as powerful as that of 1928 which I grew up with. But I see it as a day for the relatively few who are present to repent on behalf of the non-present many.

@flemingrut Two years ago I served on a Presbytery ministry committee. The convener and I discovered that a sermon and papers graded by a college were all created by AI. Lazy preachers are using AI.

In the past 10 days, I have read a number of serious warnings that AI is moving more swiftly and with more facility than we can keep up with. What will serious Christian thinkers have to say, and how fast can we say it? What is a theology of AI? Can it create a humanity?

@Marc_Allum I am sorry to read this. Some people find delight in destruction. Often, but not always, substances are involved. We had a nice garden at Church with memorials. We had plant theft and vandalism regularly. So discouraging.

Throughly depressing to see the bench I put in the churchyard in memory of a dear friend, smashed. What’s wrong with people? ☹️

@arthistorynews I also believe a peerage can only be removed by parliament for the lifetime of the peer. His heir would still inherit upon his death. (These men do not have male heirs). A peerage can be disclaimed within the first 12 months for oneself only.

He'll still be a peer. Removing that requires legislation (even Andrew M-B is still technically a duke btw.)

Édouard Vuillard's picture (c1920) is of Elizabeth Asquith (Princess Bibesco) the daughter of Margot and Herbert Asquith, Liberal Prime Minister 1908-1916. Her marriage in 1919 to the Romanian diplomat Prince Antoine Bibesco was London’s society wedding of the year.

@ahistoryinart For over a decade Adele Astaire, Fred's sister (another actor), was Lady Charles Cavendish. Unfortunately Lord Charles' drinking proved to be the end of the marriage.

John Lavery's picture (1925) depicts the hallway of Argyll House in Chelsea, London, when it was owned by Lady Sibyl Colefax. Argyll House was a prominent address in the early 20thC; visitors included Fred Astaire, George Gershwin, and Winston Churchill.
