The parrot is in the air for 30 mins flying to and fro. The parrot flies at 20kmph so in 30 mins the parrot will have travelled 10kms.

@Stephen___Burns @Dansatitagain @DoctorKarl Sam isn't walking on the spot, so each time Charlie flies back to Sam's shoulder, he's not flying 2km, so he doesn'tfly 10km. It gets less each time as Sam nears home. I haven't worked out the answer but I hope this enlightens you to! Saves my brain from doing maths.
