@DPJHodges Well we’re not asking them are we Dan. The US have asked us, not we them. We allow it because it can contribute to safety of UK and allied nationals who are at risk because of US/Israeli preemptive action. But you know that.

We’re not defending British nationals. That’s the point. We’re asking US servicemen and women to risk their lives defending British nationals because we don’t want to do it ourselves.

Lord Hogan-Howe to lead @ukhomeoffice review of policing. He’s widely viewed as mad in police circles, contributed to the Met’s decline & brooks no views that differ from his own. Poor, poor choice @ShabanaMahmood . Result won’t be good & this reflects on you.

Completely agree - a reform of policing IS far too important to be left in the hands of a former senior police officer - aside from the individual concerned who is far from ideal for that role. Peels principle of police are the public etc suggests a wider group needed.

Charlotte Nichols MP spoke so well about her rape She waited 1088 days in a queue for a jury, behind many lesser cases in which the defendant had demanded jury trial. The Jury acquitted her attacker She sued him & a Judge, on his own, believed her & gave her damages

@MikePannett @JohnHealey_MP Because of US pressure we sent a carrier group to the far north. The point of having allies to support us is so that not every country has to be everywhere at once with limited individual capability.

@JohnHealey_MP Why didn’t we have Military assets in position already defence secretary? Where is our Carrier Strike Group with F35s on-board? Why did you pull RN assets out of the ME a few weeks ago? Why are we now needing France & Greece to protect Cyprus? Why are we now not supporting the US

Labour’s repeated charge that inflation soared under the Tories is staggeringly disingenuous. They wanted longer, tougher lockdowns and more spending on Covid support measures. What do they think would have happened to inflation, had they been on charge?

@ocrossborder @RossKempsell When do you think the UK was briefed that the US was going to start the war? The lack of ships is a consequence of 50yrs degradation & a recent US push for Europe to concentrate on far north.

When the moment came Britain had no active warships in the Gulf for the first time since 1980 - yes, in 50 years. The only RN asset, HMS Middleton, a 42-year-old minehunter, was on its way back to UK port. Never forget the name of the man in charge at the time: STARMER

@GeorgeAylett @ClarkeMicah I repeat, there hasn’t been a war on drugs or any meaningful attempt to reduce demand. There has been a half-arsed, damaging effort to convince people we have had a war. A real public health approach would tackle both supply & demand. It certainly wouldn’t signal approval of use.

@Keithhunter50 @ClarkeMicah The government have been attempting to reduce demand for decades via the war on drugs. It simply hasn’t worked. Decriminalisation/legalisation, alongside regulation and taxation, has actually had a meaningful impact (with case studies seen in the aforementioned article).

The war on drugs has failed and it’s clear you can not prohibit drugs out of existence. The solution should be to legalise all drugs, regulate them, and tax them alongside funding services which help tackle addiction. Legalisation. Regulation. Taxation.

@GeorgeAylett We’ve never had a war on drugs. It’s about the only thing I agree with @ClarkeMicah on. The way to combat drugs is reduce the demand not just target suppliers. The status quo certainly doesn’t work.

Politicians can be wrong, and often are, but when a former MI6 chief speaks, he is not offering an opinion. It is an educated statement based on years of experience dealing with real dangers and real issues that go beyond any sort of bias. The Green Party is a threat to Britain’s national security. That's a fact. You would have to be incredibly dim-witted not to see it.

@Juliepinkster Once the UK strategic interest is defined we set out options for them, as individuals, as they won’t speak with one voice. If possible poll them on the options.

The UK PM/govt should decide what it wants to do geopolitically based upon UK strategic interest. It should then look to international law as a consideration. It shouldn’t start with the law. We needs politicians to lead now not lawyers.

Dear @Keir_Starmer Dear Sir Keir Starmer I understand that you have drawn up plans for the UK to increase our net zero targets and to cede control over our energy policy, as part of closer alignment with Brussels. I’d like to remind you that we voted by a majority to leave Brussels. I say you are clearly acting against the vote of the people. I ask – who is voting for net zero? Have you asked? I do not believe that you are acting in the best interests of my country – your country too – and you are my elected representative. Please tell me how and why you think and believe that I and my countrymen will benefit from an energy policy dictated from Brussels that is, frankly, based on bullsh*t, that will not keep our country in light, heat and power for the next century – and the centuries thereafter. I can tell you, as can others more qualified than me, that we will freeze to death in darkness before China and India supply their inferior lights and blankets. Simon Wood
