We strongly condemn the pro-Israel hate rally for their blatantly racist and anti-Muslim chants aimed at @NYCMayor Mamdani.
Chanting for the mayor to 'go back where he came from' and demanding his deportation, among various other bigoted slurs cheered on by the crowd, is completely unacceptable...and also completely predictable, coming from a crowd of genocide supporters.
We call on New York City officials and state leaders to condemn this hate rally, especially those officials who have spent the past two years smearing college students, human rights activists and others protesting the Gaza genocide.

A message to the worshippers of Palestine, from a Muslim who grew up with Islam, memorized the Quran, and defeated hate: In Islam, the two holiest cities are Mecca and Medina. Jerusalem’s religious significance in Islamic history developed later, especially during the time of Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan, who built what is now known as the Dome of the Rock during a period of political conflict with Ibn al-Zubayr (his cousin). The household and companions of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ were far more connected to Medina and the cities of Iraq than to Jerusalem. Jerusalem was never the capital of any Islamic caliphate. Cairo was. Baghdad was. Damascus was. But Jerusalem was NOT. Much of today’s obsession with Jerusalem comes from the fact that an ancient people, deeply indigenous to that land, returned to it. Out of narcissism, imperial nostalgia, and political obsession, many now want to take it away from them. Al-Aqsa, in the 7th-century context, referred to the ruins of the Temple. There was no Dome of the Rock standing during the lifetime of Prophet Muhammad. That fact alone challenges the idea that millions are willing to die for: the mistaken belief that the Dome of the Rock existed during the Prophet’s time. Jesus said something beautiful about truth and freedom: “You shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.” Take it from someone who grew up surrounded by radical teachings in school. By God’s overwhelming grace, I was able to expunge that hatred and defeat it with knowledge. Truth liberates. Knowledge heals. And hatred survives only where ignorance is protected.
