We are a young institute and still experiencing "firsts". Therefore: Congratulations to our very very first PhD, @JanaMassing , who had her disputation on “Dynamics of complex ecological communities” earlier this week. We are proud of you!

New preprint: Genome assemblies and genetic maps for Caribbean Acropora palmata and A. cervicornis! Both species have 14 chromosomes and largely similar genome structure. Notable exceptions were a 2.5Mb inversion and a 1.4 Mb translocation.

Our latest coral CRISPR paper is out at @PNASNews. We extended our methods to study gene function in coral juveniles. We found that a hard coral-specific bicarbonate transporter is required for coral skeleton formation. pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pn…
