A professional illustrator I admire a lot once told me, “The only people who get good at art are those who are willing to be absolutely, shockingly dreadful for a long time, and keep trying.”

“We are celebrating people, not AI. Animation is more than a prompt, it’s an art form that needs to be protected.” Amazing message from Will Arnett at the Oscars

And yet, 15+ years later, I’m still not switching to anything else. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Actually now IS the most important time for you to make art. Show people what's possible. Show others the depth of their own agency. Show the world they have a soul that yearns for something more than output, over stimulation and productivity.

Pushed AE and 3D to the limits on this one. Comp/animation/layout all in After Effects! Really looking forward to exploring more now that we have 3D prims and Substance material support 😍 #aftereffects #adobe

Animation students, if you think getting feedback on your work can be tough to hear… Wait until you’ve worked for 3 months on a shot, get it approved, and then a test screening means they’re re-editing the film and cutting your shot out. You’ll never be able to show anyone what you made, you can’t put it on your reel to get your next job, it’s lost forever. This is where continuing to do personal work is important as your insurance policy and sanity. Our job as animators is to get paid to do the work, then practice complete detachment from what happens later… they put a big dust cloud hiding all your animation, they lit the scene to hide your work, or they cut it entirely. The sooner you get to practicing a zen mindset toward the outcome of your work, the more free you’ll be to move onto the next piece with no resistance.

Jurassic Park only exists in the form we know today because Steve Williams went rogue, and I think about this all the time. See also: Animal Kingdom exists because Joe Rohde brought a literal tiger into an executive meeting. Getting it done with chaos. 10/10

Thinking about the Jurassic Park (1993) stop motion test where velociraptors hunt Barbie and Ken in the kitchen. Somehow scarier than the actual movie.

I made my first “animation” at 7 years old with McDonald’s Happy Meal toys and the home movie camera I swiped from the cabinet, even though I wasn’t supposed to touch it. My first painting was the unauthorized masterpiece I painted on the kitchen wall at 2 years old.
Eric Bourdages@EZE3D

Can we stop with all this bs propaganda pretending like there wasn't a world of kids making flash animations, game mods, indies, writing short stories & fan fics, making home movies, sketching in their notepad in the classroom. AI has never been needed for creativity.

If you’re a student looking to become a pro 3d artist, it’s really important that you tailor your portfolio towards what studios want to see and NOT what social media wants. Talk to professionals with the job you want and learn exactly what you need to show a studio.
