To be clear, patients do not have a choice in who is “managing their pharmacy benefits” because in most cases their employers handle all PBM solicitations & contracts.
Employers hire PBMs, not patients. Could this change? Yes, but not easy.

Medical oncologist: When I ask my colleagues or patients what a ‘PBM’ is, they have no idea. But if you ask about their experience obtaining specialty drugs, you’ll get a strong response and likely a story of a patient who had a delay in care or couldn’t afford their medication.
