In the latest Monolithic Man conversation with @paulbullard, we talk about his journey from a challenging childhood to a family-oriented strategist. Paul emphasizes the importance of family as the primary calling for christian men, and the need for intentional systems to maintain presence in the home.

@joshuapalassis Great way to frame it! Respect means he actually wants to do the thing, where fear is only doing the thing when I'm around.

@KenSchnetz Absolutely… respect is a permanent internal compass while fear only works when you’re watching 😄

You are not qualified to school your kids. But neither is the state.. In 2024, nearly half of high school seniors (45%) scored below the basic level in math, with only 22% graduating proficient. In reading, 32% were below basic and just 35% proficient. More than 400,000 K-12 classrooms nationwide are either vacant or staffed by uncertified, substitute, or emergency-permit teachers (roughly 1 in 8 teaching positions). Public schools logged 857,500 violent incidents in 2021–22 alone, with 67% of schools reporting at least one. Multiple large-scale studies find that around 17% of K-12 students experience sexual misconduct from a teacher, coach, or staff member. Public schools spent an average of $16,526 per pupil in recent years (among the highest in the developed world), totaling nearly $1 trillion annually yet proficiency remains at historic lows. The problem isn't qualifications. It Never has been. The issue at the heart of raising kids is who cares about them the most and will give them the strongest foundation they need to thrive.

@KenSchnetz I agree with all of this. modeling good behavior is extremely important imo. You can’t tell them to do one thing and you do the exact opposite. Doesn’t convey any confidence or sense of trust for them

These things will make you a better parent than most: - limit access to technology - lead with firm authority - model good behavior - no sleepovers

3/3. Instead of instilling fear in the boy, instill respect. I don't try to make my 14yo duaghters "friend" fear me. Instead, I have worked hard to instill respect, both for me and for my daughter. I do this by setting boundaries, expecting them to be followed, and firmly correcting both if they stray close to the line. I've made it clear that these rules are non-negotiable if he wishes to talk to her. The last part of this is that I mentor him. He gets my full attention, because this is a unique opportunity to shape this young man in his formative years. Not every dad gets that opportunity.

@Codie_Sanchez It's wild to me that people think it's bad to say this. They will immediately go to "wHaT aBoUt ThE mAn?!" Stating that wives should be supportive of their husbands is a statement that stands on it's own. It's not exclusive of what is valuable for the husband to do...

The most valuable thing you can do as a wife is to support your husband. Never be the one to talk down, shame, or belittle.

As my kids get older they go to bed later, which means they hang out with us longer, which means I have to stay up later and later to get any alone time, which means I’ll eventually be going to bed at sunrise

"Marriage only benefits women..." This is a lie. Marriage is not about benefits in the first place... it's not a 50/50 business transaction. It is relationship. It's 100/100, or in the case where one of you is down, 50/150 for a time. Don't buy the lie that marriage is a bad thing for men. Choose a virtuous woman and build an unbreakable family with her!
