Under capitalism, you pay for what you choose.
Under statist systems, you still pay, but for what politicians choose, whether you want it or not.
And because the money is disconnected from voluntary consent, the incentives collapse: costs rise, accountability falls, quality declines, innovation slows, and choice disappears. You end up paying more through taxes, inflation, debt, and bureaucracy for services you often can’t refuse and can barely escape.
A business has to earn your money repeatedly. The state can compel it regardless of performance.
