@fgrhoops Take a look @ the game globally & read what is going on in Europe & Australia . We are falling behind w our youth in development etc. Shot clock will emphasize more skill development , kids will have to make plays etc. Coaches will adapt & over time the game will get better !

@fgrhoops This isn’t about what the ADs want . Talk to your coaches & see what they say. Needs to be framed as what is good for the game . What is good for the game is a shot clock . Figure out the details !

If 61% of Athletic Director’s don’t want a shot clock then I bet 61% of AD’s don’t schedule Saturday home games, won’t host district/regionals and secretly want their teams to lose in the playoffs so they don’t have to go to another road game

Congrats to Coach Arnold @HoltBasketballB for being named GAC North Coach of the Year! This is the third consecutive year Coach has won. As impressive as his coaching accolades are, his true strength lies in his Christian faith and the way he shows up for his family and friends.

MSHSAA has issues that they have consistently ignored & refuse to acknowledge. There is a major disconnect between the leaders & “membership” . I mean the actual coaches not the admin they talk to in their meetings. Their communication is poor top to bottom . I agree with you not sure state gov run is the answer.

This to me is the heart of the issue with MSHSAA right now. I think for the part, they do a great job. I sure don't want legislators involved - it's not broken, but it will be if they touch it. The lack of consistency is the issue. Fix that & the issue goes away. Many people supporting changing MSHSAA want the "portal" approach this is causing issues in college. I just want consistency. Full Family Moves. Same for Rural as for the City. Don't allow loop holes for programs to cheat. Those in the know, know that this is happening. That is where the lack of consistency comes in to play.
Tom Brown@Iserve2lead

When there is a lack of consistency in leadership - whether real or perceived - a lack of trust follows. Business, organizations, sports, or family it's the same. The inconsistent "leaders" defend, justify, and/or deny their inconsistencies. Real leaders listen & change.

Yes we screen our refs pretty well & don’t use HS kids. Having a HS certification for refs helps but is no guarantee they will be good . We have a good pool of refs . We pay them well. Biggest expense I have for biz . The 3 on 3 ideas has me intrigued & we may try more of those events

@KentThomas7 @showmeshootouts I think making sure adults ref the games would be a great start. Throwing high school or middle school kids (yes, I have seen it!) with absolutely no experience is brutal and makes the games extremely difficult to coach and doesn’t benefit the kids in anyway. 3 on 3 is great!

As a former head girls basketball coach and current 4th grade girls coach, AND current high school varsity official…you are spot on Tony!!! The current state of girls basketball in Nebraska (youth through high school) is in a very dangerous place. Makes me so sad.
Tony Chapman@tony_chapman76

Coached a lot of youth girls hoops this month. Really watching the concerning trends of participation in our state. Have a lot of thoughts on “the model” and why girls are quitting. - No need for second or third grade basketball GAMES. Skill development? Yes. 3-on-3 leagues? Awesome. - In youth volleyball, guess who refs the games? The other players and coaches. Police themselves. In basketball, girls get knocked over for 5-6 years and decide it’s not worth it in high school. I get it. - More players would play if we played FEWER GAMES that were better officiated. Just a hunch. “Hey mom, that was fun, I didn’t spend the whole game on the ground.” - I KNOW we have an officials shortage. But we have to SHUT UP at games at the JV and high school varsity level. Only makes it worse. On the other side…. - JV officials if you are getting paid, call the first HAND CHECK. Just don’t allow it. Then girls won’t get knocked over for 32 minutes and you’ll get a breather while they shoot free throws. I have seen way too many gruesome injures at the JV level the last few years. - Coaches!! I get the game has turned physical because of the whistle. But we can teach our kids to play without fouling!! I watched Bennington and Norris (on my TV, sadly) on Friday. Same for Elkhorn Valley and Central City. You can play GREAT defense without fouling. Promise. Ok. That’s enough. If you are playing in a conference tournament this week go have fun. Cut a dang net down. I hope I can watch your team soon. @PGHNebraska // #nebpreps

Coaches This time of year...you are probably worn down. You are probably emptying your tank every day. Reminder to take care of yourself. When your tank runs empty, it will be hard to fill up others tanks, specifically your players and fellow coaches. What do you do or what are you going to do to help reset or restore your energy, either daily or at the end of the week? Sometimes not watching that 1 more hour of film and instead doing something for yourself or your family or with close friends may be the better ROI for you.

I might get killed for this, but we have to stop bleeding off-season sports into in-season, for girls specifically. Pre-teens deciding which team to disappoint on Saturdays; BB or travel VB, shouldn't even be a thing. SB during VB & BB. Why? It's a machine. How do we stop it?

The 10 Truths Parents Rarely See 1. Coaches lose sleep. 2. Decisions aren’t personal. 3. Playing time is complex. 4. Culture matters more than stats. 5. Accountability is care. 6.
